The history of Mary Prince part of Black History Month in the UK. Is a time during which people highlight and celebrate the contribution that black people have made to the country. In this video we take a closer look at a British abolitionist and auto biographer, born in Bermuda to an enslaved family of African descent. Subsequent to her escape, when she was living in London, England, where she wrote her slave narrative. Now we view the history and times of Mary Prince.
Mary Prince details the life of a slave and without her opportunity to come to the UK and to give a full and frank account of her life and others who were with her. We all might have never truly known the full scale of the horrors that condemned people to a life of misery and torture.
However, This is a familiar story and the text is extremely important in todays society. Mary Prince suffered unthinkable punishments for doing no more than housework and maid duties. She was not a woman to remain quiet and rightly protested at every moment. Her book is a culmination of this and she will forever remain an extraordinary symbol of tenacity and resilience.
